Welcome to Niendorf on the German Baltic Sea coast

Niendorf on the Baltic Sea is a district of the municipality of Timmendorfer Strand in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The Baltic Sea resort is best known for its idyllic fishing harbour and marina, which was artificially created in the Aalbeck estuary in 1920. To this day, Niendorf has retained its original character and, compared to neighbouring Timmendorfer Strand, presents itself as a rather quiet and tranquil Baltic seaside resort.

The leisure facilities in Niendorf on the Bay of Lübeck and the surrounding region offer a variety of activities for young and old all year round. A holiday in Niendorf on the Baltic Sea is always worth a visit.

Marina and fishing harbour in Niendorf

Fishing is still of central importance in Niendorf today. Every day, cutters bring their catch into the harbour, where it is sold at the surrounding stalls. There are also berths for excursion boats and pleasure craft in the harbour. The excursion boats can be used for trips to the Bay of Lübeck or to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

There are restaurants and various seating areas around the idyllic harbour from which you can watch the goings-on on and around the water.

Beach and promenade in Niendorf

If you cross the harbour in the direction of the beach, you will reach the Niendorf promenade. On one side you can see the sea and the wide sandy beach, on the other side there are numerous restaurants and cafés that invite you to linger.

Near the end of the approximately two kilometer long promenade is the pier, completed in 2014, which offers a wonderful view of the open sea.

Sightseeing, sport and culture

The neighbouring seaside resorts in the Bay of Lübeck are also always worth a visit. For guests who enjoy hiking, the 6 km long hiking trail from Niendorf over the Brodtner Steilufer to Travemünde offers a wonderful panoramic view of the sea. The beach resorts Timmendorf Strand, Scharbeutz, Haffkrug , Neustadt (Holstein) or Pelzerhaken can be easily reached by car (or even by bike or on foot).

For all those who like it sporty, water sports in every form are of course at home here. As a traditional sailing area, the Baltic Sea is the venue for major events such as Kieler Woche and Travemünder Woche. But cycling tours along the Baltic coast or to "holsteinische Schweiz", golf and tennis are also popular activities in our region.

Another worthwhile detour is a visit to the nearby Hanseatic city of Lübeck. Lübeck's old town has been a UNSECO World Heritage Site for many years and offers much more than the Holsten Gate, beautiful views, history and world-famous marzipan. Lübeck is a city of culture with numerous museums, theatres, galleries, cinemas and events worth seeing.
